Merrill Field is a commercial service airport was established in 1930. This airport is located one mile east of downtown Anchorage on 436 acres in the U.S. state of Alaska. This airport is known as the first real and official airport in Anchorage. This airport was opened as the Anchorage Aviation Field but later it was renamed as Merrill Field in honor of the Alaska aviation pioneer Russel Merrill.
There is a total of 844 aircraft based on this airport in which 41 are multi-engine, 786 are a single engine, 16 helicopters and one glider for the various flight operations. The airfield hosts air taxi services, two locally owned flight schools and also fixed base operators for great comfort and convenience of the passengers. To meet any medical needs of injured passengers, this airport is also connected with the Alaska Regional Hospital with an extension of the Q Taxiway. The airfield is used in the present day as the primary field for ski-equipped aircraft in the winters and during warmer months the airfield is used for private wheel-equipped aircraft.
